The Altrincham Debt Management Centre

The centre helps low income and socially disadvantaged people burdened by debt journey out of debt. It does so regardless of their faith, colour or background. It provides professional advice completely free of charge. An initiative of Altrincham Baptist Church, the Centre is located at The Hub Pownall Road and serves the Altrincham, Hale and Timperley area as part of a national debt counselling charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) UK.

The Altrincham Centre has a team of volunteer church ‘Befrienders’ who play a key role in supporting clients practically and emotionally. Each client also has a personal Debt Adviser - Caseworker at the CAP Head Office in Bradford.

Volunteers have had the opportunity to show love in action. The journey to freedom from debt may take three to five years but the Centre has already seen seven clients become debt free and had the privilege of befriending and working with more than 100 families.

In response to the continuing difficult economic circumstances and rising levels of personal debt Altrincham Baptist Church has sought and obtained the support of Altrincham Christians Together and ACT Member Churches including Altrincham United Reformed Church in making the Debt Management Service and its single Freephone Number for personal confidential enquiries more widely known. The number is 0800 328 0006.

CAP is widely respected within the financial services industry because of its successful work with clients. Martin Lewis of Money Saving Expert regularly commends CAP to TV and Radio audiences because of CAP’s holistic approach that encompasses education in personal budgeting and savings into debt repayment plans.
